And Sing for All Eternity

 Without a thought of whom they praise,
The lilies shout in gold and green
Along the road, and in the fields,
Their worship of creation’s king.

In ignorance of him whose name
Is lifted in each note she sings,
The sparrow from her perch takes flight
To glorify her lord in spring.

To honor one they cannot know,
The mountains rise in stately grace;
The stars, in shining splendor, sing
Of him who set them in their place.

If other creatures cannot know
The glory of the name they raise,
Yet, knowing whom they worship, I
Will lift my voice with theirs, in praise.

The blossom in its season fades;
The sparrow fails to lift her wing;
The mountain washes to the sea;
The stars, at last, will cease to sing.

Their praise shall end, and only God
Will hear it in his memory.
But I shall know him even then,
And sing for all eternity.
