Lullaby (Ocean of Forgetfulness)
If tears could mend a broken heart,
Or sorrow bring your mind to rest,
Then I would take the tears you might have shed
Had you not wearied of the waking world,
And cry an ocean of forgetfulness.
Let the night take you, and go in peace,
And I will sing you on your secret way,
That with my music I may guard your path –
Although in darkness you prefer to walk –
Against the possibility of evil dreams.
Walk toward the light. Don’t be afraid.
And may the Savior meet you on the way.
And may he bless you, keep you in his love,
Embrace you gently as you sleep,
Surround you with his grace, and give you peace.
And when you wake, the darkness will have ended,
And everything that happened in the night
Will be a distant, fading dream.
And we will walk in everlasting light,
At the end of time, when the world is mended.
